Before You Begin, Make Sure You Have:
Your official PCA Microsoft staff email address and temporary password.
Access to a stable Wi-Fi connection.
Your personal mobile device ready for Microsoft Authenticator setup.
Setup Guide
Your new laptop has been pre-configured and is ready to set up. The setup process takes about 10 minutes of active work. Before you start, please note that PCA Microsoft account credentials will be required as well as access to the internet. If your PCA Microsoft credentials have not been emailed yet, please hold off on setting up your device.
Important: Do not skip the wifi step during setup. Your device needs to connect to the internet before you can log in for the first time. If you skip this step, the device will not be configured correctly, and will need to be reset.
Step 1: Power On and Initial Setup
Open the laptop and press the power button. You will see the Windows setup screen after a short wait.
- Select your country or region and click Yes.
- Select your keyboard layout and click Yes. Click Skip if asked about a second layout.
- When you reach the network screen, connect to your wifi before proceeding. Select your network, enter your password, and wait for the connection to confirm.
- Once connected, your device will contact PCA's IT systems. This may take a few minutes and you will see the screen change automatically. Do not turn the device off during this step.
Step 2: Sign In to Your PCA Account
Enter your PCA Microsoft email address and the provided password. You will also be prompted to create a PIN for your device, which will speed up the sign-in process in the future. If you would like to change your provided password, go to https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info/password/change and login with your provided credentials.
You will also need to set up MFA (multi-factor authentication) for your Microsoft account. The setup process will guide you through those steps. Have your phone handy!
Step 3: Device Ready
Once setup is complete, your device will restart and take you to the Windows desktop. Your PCA account will be signed in and your device will be managed by IT. Required apps and settings will continue installing in the background. It is recommended to leave the device open and connected to wifi and plugged in until installation completes. You will know the device is finished when you see the following software installed:
- Adobe Acrobat Reader
- Google Chrome
- Lightspeed
- Zoom
Troubleshooting
I skipped the wifi step and setup finished without my PCA account.
If you complete the setup without connecting to wifi, your device is not configured correctly. Do not use the device for PCA and contact SYS Device Support for assistance.
I don't know my PCA Microsoft account password.
Your PCA Microsoft account credentials will be emailed to you, including your password. Do not create a personal Microsoft account on this device. If the password emailed to you does not work, please contact SYS Device Support for assistance.
I don't like my PCA Microsoft account password.
If you would like to change your provided password, go to https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info/password/change and login with your provided credentials.
Setup is stuck or the screen isn't changing.
Make sure the device is still connected to wifi. App installations and configuration can take anywhere from half a day to 24 hours to fully complete. If the screen has not changed after 24 hours, please contact SYS Device Support before doing anything else. It is not recommended to restart the device mid-setup.
My device keeps falling asleep and won’t finish the download.
- Open the Start Menu and click Settings.
- Select System on the left menu, then click on Power & battery.
- Select Screen, sleep, & hibernate timeouts under Plugged In, set "Turn my screen off after" and "Make my device sleep after" to Never.
